Peru - Pisco

TUESDAY EVE / WEDNESDAY MORNING

Drinking Pisco sour in Pisco

We took a public coach along the coast to Pisco on the Pan-American Highway arriving at night. We had a well deserved Pisco sour drink. This is a traditional drink that has Pisco (made from grape), sugar, lemon juice, egg white, ice and drops of Amargo Angostura, then cinnamon is sprinkled on top. All goes down very well!

Pisco had last year on the 15th August a devastating earthquake (Magnitude 8) which killed over 500 and injured 1130 people in the cities of Pisco, Ina and Chincha. Tourists are now coming back to the area where they are can help re-build the economy. We stayed one night and in the morning we were horrified by the distruction. Our hotel had been rebuilt and one of only a few buildings fully working.

Our next stop is to see the wildlife at Ballestas Island.
